The Group Tax Accountant is a key member of the Group Finance function of the McMillan Shakespeare Group (MMSG) responsible for managing the taxation compliance requirements pursuant to Australian and New Zealand income taxation laws, across direct (corporate income tax) and indirect tax (GST, FBT) obligations.
The Group Tax Accountant will utilise technical and professional skills/knowledge to ensure compliance requirements are met in a timely manner with effective communication to the Group Tax Manager and the General Manager Group Finance, ensuring clear and proper records are maintained in an efficient and effective manner. The Group Tax Accountant will also support adherence to taxation policies and maintaining an effective tax governance and reporting framework to identify and minimise taxation risks and ensure a high assurance that the right amount of taxation liabilities are discharged.
The Group Tax Accountant will recommend improvements to financial control and tax reporting processes to support the efficient and effective preparation of income tax returns and other tax compliance obligations for the MMS Group and its subsidiaries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation of the income tax return of the Australian Tax Consolidated Group and New Zealand entities in compliance with regulatory requirements on a timely basis.
- Preparation of income tax computations using appropriate tax positions that are compliant with tax legislation, best practice and MMSG’s taxation policy.
- Preparation of tax effect accounting and related tax disclosures for financial reporting for Australian and NZ entities and supporting the Group Statutory Reporting Manager in the completion of the annual and half year financial statements.
- Maintain statutory registers (franking account) and relevant taxation records.
- Preparation of relevant returns for indirect / employment / state taxation including supporting analysis when necessary.
- Continual development and enhancement of the reporting systems and processes for an efficient tax reporting process.
- Reviewing, updating and improving tax-related systems, or implement systems as appropriate, as well as ensuring MMS group tax records are efficiently maintained.
- Keeping up to date with changes to tax legislation
- Work with fellow team members in the Group Finance team to ensure good financial controls and governance is maintained.
You will bring:
- At least 5 years of tax management and accounting in practice and/or industry in a corporate or professional services environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of taxation legislation in Australia and New Zealand.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial reporting and accounting concepts.
- Relevant tertiary qualification and membership of professional
- Relevant tertiary qualification and membership of professional Taxation and/or Accounting bodies (The Tax Institute, CA ANZ, CPA)
