The Group Taxation Manager is a key member of the Group Finance function of the McMillan Shakespeare Group (MMSG) responsible for managing the income taxation compliance requirements pursuant to Australian and New Zealand income taxation laws, provide oversight in managing Australian indirect / employment / state taxation compliance and provide support in relation to the UK Tax accounting requirements within the MMSG consolidation framework.

The Group Taxation Manager will utilise technical and professional skills/knowledge to ensure compliance requirements are met in a timely manner with effective communication to the General Manager Group Finance, developing appropriate taxation policies and maintaining an effective tax governance and reporting framework to identify and minimise taxation risks and ensure a high assurance that the right amount of taxation liabilities are discharged.

The Group Taxation Manager will recommend improvements to financial control and reporting frameworks and processes to support the efficient and effective preparation of income tax returns and other tax compliance obligations for the MMS Group and its subsidiaries.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of the income tax return of the Australian Tax Consolidated Group and New Zealand entities in compliance with regulatory requirements on a timely basis
  • Preparation of income tax computations using appropriate tax positions that are compliant with tax legislation, best practice and MMSG’s taxation policy
  • Preparation of tax effect accounting and related tax disclosures for financial reporting for Australian and NZ entities and supporting the Group Statutory Reporting Manager in the completion of the annual and half year financial statements. Provide support when necessary to UK corporate taxation
  • Maintain statutory registers (franking account) and relevant taxation records.
  • Maintain, monitor and manage the tax governance and reporting framework, ensuring all policies are updated and adhered to, including supporting the General Manager Group Finance in reporting to the Board and Board Committees.
  • Tax planning to minimise tax risk exposures and run an efficient operation.
  • Preparation of acquisition related taxation obligations such as the Allocable Cost Allocation (ACA) and stub income tax return where applicable.
  • Maintain transfer pricing documentation and minimise thin capitalisation exposures.
  • Oversight and responsibility for indirect / employment / state taxation including support when necessary.
  • Computation of ESS discounts and preparation of ESS reporting obligations for MMS and ESS participants
  • Maintain the MMS Employee Share Trust and another vehicle for the distribution of employee entitlements under the LTIP, including any payroll tax requirements for the LTIP
  • Lead and manage taxation related investigations or due diligence for acquisitions and significant business transactions.
  • Continual development and enhancement of the reporting systems and processes for an efficient tax reporting process

You will Bring:

  • At least 7 years of tax management in practice and/or industry in a corporate or professional services environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of taxation legislation in Australia and New Zealand
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial reporting and accounting concepts
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and membership of professional Taxation and/or Accounting bodies (The Tax Institute, CA ANZ, CPA)
  • Other relevant qualifications of industry bodies/institutions.
